09/24/2008 - Lots Done!

Where to begin? Lots has happened since the last update. Lets start where we left off...the engine!

Out with it! Obviously a three cylinder engine is not too heavy...but it was heavy enough! And yes, those are 8-tracks on the wall over there...my wife Kathy runs www.katestrackshack.com. Check it out!

Ain't she sweet? I have just started working in getting it unstuck...more to come!

Off to the sandblasters! I joked that I hauled it down in my Jeep, and I could haul back what was left in the trunk of my TR6!

It's back! Let me tell you..the $$ spent sandblasting was worth evey penny! Tony the sandlaster told me that there was a ton of bondo on it, and I believe it! I can really see the welds now. See all those holes up front? I did not see them earlier!! At least the frame is solid, jackson!

The rest of the sheetmetal. Even though I have lots of body work ahead, just getting rid of the rust and yuck makes the whole job more attractive.

I know a lot of you guys are gonna groan every time I show you my work on this, but hey, have pity...at least I am trying! I got out my brand new bead roller from Harbor Freight tonight and decided to try it out. I am going to rebuild the body in sections, as I am pretty sure I am going to make lots of mistakes. My first piece tonight turned out pretty well though! I cut off the rust sheet metal and made my first patch panel. I used the bead roller to start the bend, and then used a hammer and pliers to make the 90 degree turn on the top. I then bent in a flange that matches my not quite straight cut. You can see my paper hanging straight edge that I am using to keep it all straight. I will cut out the piece on the back later...that was the only piece on that side that still had any of the original 90 degree bend still on it! Tomorrow night...we weld!
